An archaeology
Seipersei, 16 November 2016

“An archaeology” is a trip through time; it’s about how an old object once found by an archaeologist’s gets to us and communicate the real signs of its time, the information about the people who have used it, and in particular the time travel that this object had to do to bring us valuable information: how as a small object can come to us, traveling through time and space, and how it could reveal a different meaning each time depending on the interpreter, who sometimes might be an archaeologist or just an prosaic observer.
The same happens in photography with our pictures.

All’ombra di un pino – In the shade of a pine tree
Seipersei, 21 August 2015

It’s a long-term project about the Tuscan Maremma, its territory and communities living at the borders of this land. A journey that starts from the coast of the Maremma Natural Park and arrives to Nomadelfia, a Catholic community nearby Grosseto, passing through the pine forests of Principina a Mare and Marina di Grosseto; Castiglione della Pescaia and the ancient flooded areas along the river Ombrone. “In the shade of a pine tree” is a project of documentary photography with a strong personal poetics: here are photographed the places of my childhood and my happiest memories, but also treated topics and relevant social realities, in order to achieve an anthropological portrait. This project highlights some issues related to the territory and the landscape changement, such as the cutting of trees in the pine forests.

Magic Campo – A dreamy tale
Seipersei, 5 December 2014

Magic Campo is about the Palio of Siena. It is a dreamy tale without winners or losers. Magic Campo is a dream in black and white.
“Piazza del Campo is one of the most popular – and photographed – piazzas in the world. You might come to think there is nothing more that can be depicted which can still surprise us during those days. The project that Stefano Vigni presents us with demonstrates that it is not so: in this place, even in those moments, strange worlds which are a step beyond the level of what we are able to perceive, are accessible only to those who want to know and see. Stephen’s images are suspended in time, enigmatic, alienating, which do not arouse immediate recognition but on the contrary they are a force that raises the viewer awareness.”

Derive, Italy in crisis
Seipersei, 27 December 2013

With the advent of the economic crisis Italy it has found it increasingly difficult to manage the social and environmental problems that afflict the country. From the waste emergency in Campania to the floods in Tuscany, from the Emilia and L’Aquila earthquakes, to the sinking of the Costa Concordia at Isola del Giglio, amidst and economic depression marketed by popular protests, such as the movements in Val di Susa, Italy is now in its most troubled era since the Second World War. DERIVE (Drift) is a collection of photographic reportages concerning the social and environmental issues in Italy between 2008 and 2013. It chronicles the lives, hopes and dreams of Italian people, a journey through the social unease in which many Italians are forced to live during this time. The material was completed in 2013 and first published December 2013 in the book Derive.

20000km, The roads that portray Italy
Seipersei, 6 July 2012

20.000km is a journey through time along the Italian roads of yesterday and today: a neo-realistic study into the building speculation tactics of the 70s, a cultural odyssey into the natural heritage
a journey into the Italy of arrangements and unfinished works, a excursion into the future of the first hydrogen highway of Europe. This is an important project, which highlights the development and the evolution of the roads in Italy; yet this work is also about italian territory and the preservation of our landscape.
